SCULPTRA

What is Sculptra?

Sculptra â„¢ is the trade name for L-polylactic acid (PLLA). It is a synthetic, biodegradable, immunologically inert and absorbable polymer, used in medicine for over 30 years, in the form of sutures, screws, plates, implants.

How does it work?

The action of Sculptra consists in causing an increase in the volume of the dermis by neo-collagenogenesis. For this characteristic, Sculptra should be considered a "tonic" of the connective tissue rather than a filler and does not require allergy tests.

It is important to understand that the onset of correction does not occur immediately as with normal fillers, but gradually arises over the following months. The duration of the correction varies according to the frequency with which the area of the implant is stressed; the result tends to be maximum from 6-8 up to 12-14 months after the first implant, but it can differ greatly from patient to patient.

The result obtained will have a long duration  and it will always be possible to make recalls.

Is the treatment painful? Do you need anesthesia?

Sculptra is injected into the subcutaneous tissue or deep dermis with a fine needle. A small amount of anesthetic is associated with the product, in order to reduce the discomfort of infiltration.

How is the procedure carried out? How long does it last?

After a thorough evaluation e  disinfection of the area the doctor will proceed to design the points to be treated  with a dermographic pen. The whole process takes no more than 30 minutes.

What will I need to do after the procedure? How long does the desired effect last? How long does it take to see results?

You will return to your daily activities immediately after the treatment. Swelling, bruising, and other minor side effects subside within a few days.

After the treatment, I recommend that you massage the area for five minutes at a time, five times a day, for five days.

Avoid the sun or tanning beds until the redness and swelling have resolved.

This process requires a period of a few months, for which several sessions (usually at least four) are required to obtain the filling of the defects to be corrected.

The sessions must be scheduled at a suitable distance of time; it is likely that you will have to wait at least six months before the end of treatment.

Sculptra is a long-lasting biodegradable product: its half-life is about 18 months; this means that after 18 months approximately half of the product used will be present. This will allow you to carry out individual retouching sessions once a year.

The doctors of the practice, who perform aesthetic medicine services, are exclusively specialists and plastic surgeons who are members of the "Italian Society of Aesthetic Medicine-SIME"
